The second Grand Slam event on the tennis calendar, the French Open, or Roland Garros, got underway in Paris on Sunday (25 May), and there are several gay tennis players offering some vital rainbow LGBTQ+ representation.

“Tennis is perceived as that country club sport, a highly competitive individual sport played across every country of the world. There are a lot of reasons not to come out as a gay man,” says Brian Vahaly, the highest-ranked tennis player to ever cross that rubicon — after retirement.
